Daniil Orlov | Sakhalinskiye Akuly | MHL | L | D | 6’2″ | 181 | Elektrostal, RUS | 2003 | 2021-2022: B- |
Ian Moran’s Thoughts: Orlov is an 03 playing in the MHL without any International experience so he’s been flying under the radar back home in Russia. He’s on our list because he’s a 6’2″ defender who plays with very tight gaps and has very good lateral mobility along the defensive blueline. We like how he does not get caught leaning while defending. He plays with his hips low and his chest high which allows him to keep his balance through contact and often times win quick 5 or 10′ races to loose pucks. Orlov has contributed offensively over the past 2 years in the MHL and finished this year with 9 goals and 30 points in 54 games to go along with 45 penalty minutes. Offensively he has a quick release from point with ability to change shooting lanes without the need to over handle the puck.
