U18: 5 Nation Tournament, November 8-14, 2022: Emil provided his team with some very solid goaltending in our 2 viewings of him. Although a US team did fire 7 by him, he was inundated with shots and made lots of quality saves in a losing 7-6’25 effort. In the other outing he was spectacular and kept the Swedes to one single goal very late in the game. Firstly Emil has the size the Pro’s are seeking out of their goaltending prospects, already at 6’2. As a late birthday he is ineligable until 2024 so he may still have some height in him left to grow. With the amount of shots he was fielding we thought Emil did a great job of understanding the flow of the game, knowing when to eat a puck and get a line change, or when to put a save back into play for a teammate. He showed very good athleticism, was able to go up-down or sprawl when needed, was square to shooters and with his height and challenge, hid a lot of mesh from shooters. He was very composed in traffic, poised and composed and really stood out when Finland tied the Swedes 1-1 late in the game. Following the tying goal Sweden poured it on and Emil stood tall making several excellent saves. Only with just over a minute remaining did Sweden get to him where he had no chance on a royal road one time shot. Another year of quality development and Emil will be a strong 2024 draft prospect.
