ISL Keller Showcase

Marion, MA – We had three scouts attend the ISL Keller Showcase as teams head to the final week before Holiday Tournaments. Tabor hosted four games, all three-period, complete games that counted in the league standings. It was an outstanding event with two one-goal games, one ending in overtime.

Nobles v Belmont Hill

In the 11:00 AM game, Belmont Hill took a commanding lead and never looked back as they dominated rival Nobles to take home a 7-1 win. Jason Thibodeau started for Belmont Hill, and Tucker Monroe for Nobles.

Just 1:43 into the first, senior Patrick Woods hammered a one-timer home from 2010s Sam Lee and Nick Ware on the power play to give BHS a 1-0 lead. Less than three minutes later, senior Matt Carolan ripped a rocket home from 2010 Robert Dekleine to make it 2-0 Belmont Hill. The first period was physical, and Nobles pushed back, adding a goal from Kristopher Soja from Brown commit Billy MacAusland with just 7.9 seconds left. BHS carried the play in the first frame, but Nobles gained some late momentum.

Woods struck again for Belmont Hill 4:45 into the second with another heavy shot on the power play. Classmate Evan Jones picked up the assist to make it 3-1. Carolan continued the pattern with a rebound goal assisted by Jackson Burns and Dekleine. It was 4-1, and Belmont Hill kept the pressure on to lead 4-1 going into the third.

Dartmouth commit Evan Jones helped make sure there would be no Nobles comeback. He snapped the puck low, far side, just 1:48 into the third to make it 5-1. 2010s Ware and Landon Roe added assists. Then, with 9:48 to go, Jones wired the puck into the top of the cage from Woods and Ware to make it 6-1. Robert Dekleine added the seventh goal from Carolan to make it 7-1, and that is how it ended. Belmont Hill hosts Governors on Wednesday a while Nobles will host Tabor on the same day.

Governors v Thayer

Marion, MA – In the second game of the Keller Showcase, Thayer tipped Governor’s 3-2 in overtime. Tyler Moschella made 40 stops for Thayer for the win. Timmy Heaslip made 28 saves in the loss.

The first period was well-paced and physical. Governor’s pressed and won the forecheck battle, coming in waves. Both goaltenders played well as the period went scoreless.

In the second frame, Governor’s was rewarded for their consistent pressure with a goal. Just 3:43 in, Ford Sullivan popped the puck home from Tripp Schuwerk and 2010 Jamie Calla to make it 1-0. Thayer responded a few minutes later as Jack Funk snapped the puck into the far side of the net on a semi-breakaway. An assist went to Nathan Rooney. The period ended 1-1, setting up a terrific finish to a game that was part rock fight, with a lot of physicality.

The third period was fast and gritty. Governors held a slight edge, but Moschella held strong. Governors scored 12:40 into the third when Robbie Daley snuck a wrister home to make it 2-1. A bit over two minutes later, Thayer responded with a slick breakaway score by Tommy Wilkinson off a high, stretch pass from Northeastern commit Brian McFadden. It ended that way, and off we went to 5v5 overtime. In overtime, Wilkinson came into the Governor’s zone with some pace and whipped a backhand on the net that found its way home for the game winner. Nick Sumner had the assist.

Both teams are back at it on Wednesday. Governors heads to Belmont Hill. Thayer will host Andover Academy.

Marion, MA – The third game of the day featured the home team, the Tabor Seawolves, in new navy-trimmed uniforms, against the Lawrence Academy Spartans. Tabor took the win 3-1 behind a 28-save game from Vinnie D’Urso. The Spartan’s Aiden Emerick made 32 saves in a losing effort.

Tabor broke through early in the first as Owen Carter snapped a puck that went through several bodies to find its way into the net. Heyden Hildebrandt and Ares Miller picked up assists. It was 1-0 Tabor just 1:07 into the first period. A high-paced frame led to some quality chances by both squads. Both goalies made excellent saves as the teams headed to the locker room tied at one goal.

In the second, Karolis Janulis scored 7:31 in with an assist to his brother Matas Junulis to give Lawrence a 2-1 lead that they held until the third period.

In the final frame, Sacred Heart commit Ethan Travis scored on a slick breakaway deke that gave the Seawolves a 2-1 lead. Assists went to Marcello Martinelli and Nolan Sweeney. Then, with two minutes left, Carter struck again to seal the win with a rocket to give Tabor the 3-1 advantage and a two-goal cushion. Chase Watts picked up an assist. That was how it ended, with Tabor taking the win.

Tabor heads to Nobles on Wednesday, while Lawrence heads to Milton on Hump Day.

St. Sebastian’s v Milton

Neutral Zone was in attendance at the ISL Showcase at Tabor Academy in Marion, MA. The last game of the slate was a tightly contested affair between the Mustangs of Milton Academy and the Arrows of St. Sebastian’s. The Arrows would hold on for a hard-fought 2-1 win.

The game was well played and fast-paced. Both teams made a good number of skill plays. The two goalies, Eli Zucker for Milton and Tommy Saulnier for Sebastian’s, played well and turned away more than a few high-quality chances.

The Arrows started the scoring in the first period when Jared Hughes drove through the middle of the ice and tried to split the defense. The puck was poked away momentarily, but was quickly recovered by Danny Porter in the high slot. He ripped the puck low blocker by the goalie. Milton would answer back a few minutes later. Brody Sharpe fired a low shot on net that was initially saved. Joe Feinberg pounced on the rebound and tucked it by the goalie.

The second period was pretty quiet until the Arrows took the lead for good. 2009 Cade Noonan gathered a bobbling puck in the slot and spun to his forehand, and slid a shot on goal. The shot was stopped, but standing at the doorstep was 2010 Jack Queally, who calmly gathered the puck and walked around Zucker before tucking it home.

The third period was similar to the second, with each team trading chances. Milton’s best chance came with seven minutes to go when Feinberg snapped a low pass-off-pads, which was gathered by TJ Petropoulos, but his rebound chance hit off the side of the post. Milton pulled their goalie with over two minutes remaining and also earned a power play for a 6-4 advantage; however, Saulnier stood tall. The game would end 2-1 in favor of the Arrows.
