#8 Belmont Hill at Thayer Academy

Braintree, MA – On Wednesday, #8 Belmont Hill traveled over to a hungry Thayer Academy team that is looking to get back in the top-15. Ethan Bauer in the cage for Belmont Hill and Senior goaltender Tyler Moschella for Thayer.

The boys on both sides know plenty of scouts will be in the stands, given that the mid-season central scouting ratings were published before the game. Some pushing and shoving on the opening draw from Samuel Lee and Thomas Wilkinson sets the tone early. Belmont Hill held the majority of the chances in the 1st period, but the game was strong and back-and-forth. Scoreless after 1.

The game’s first goal comes with nine minutes left in the second. Cooper Shea slides it over to Jack Funk, who used quick hands in front to beat Bauer for the opening goal of the game. 1-0 Thayer. Thayer heads to the power play with under 6 minutes to go, and Wilkinson gathers the puck in the high slot to the right of Bauer and rips a low shot. Finding a seam low glove for the second goal for Thayer and a comfortable 2-0 lead.

In the second half of the 3rd period, Belmont Hill dominated the game, but poor puck luck and strong play by Moschella kept Belmont Hill at 0. Belmont Hill possessed the puck well with the goalie empty, but failed to generate much offense around the net. A strong individual effort from Nick Sumner with 44 seconds left puts the final touch on this upset victory for Thayer. 3-0 final.
