Storrs, CT – In the second game of the day at UConn, we have the #4 seed Brunswick playing against the defending Elite 8 champs, Cushing Academy. In goal for Brunswick is Zai Ferraro, and for Cushing is Mason Raycroft
Even back-and-forth game to start the first. The first goal does not come until 8:16 in the first, when AJ Haas rips one from the point through a screen to get up 1-0. Shortly after, Blake Cash slides a pass to Ben Marcolini net front, but we stay 1-0 due to a great save by Ferraro. Brunswicks turn on the power play late to try and even things up, but are not able to capitalize.
Brunswick has been the better team for the first half of the second. They even get on a 5-on-3, but the offense lets them down, and the game stays 1-0. With around nine minutes left, Sebastian Mogull scores to extend the lead to two. Cushing jumps on the power play, and again we see Mogull find the back of the net. He has been deadly around the net in this game.
The third period starts with a 4 on 3, and Cushing is able to capitalize with a goal from Cash. Axel Favreau slides it over to Cash, who tips the puck off the skate of Marcolini for another goal, 5-0 Cushing. Raycroft has been great all game, and it continued all game long. Cushing gets two straight chances on the man down, but it’s Cam McDonough who is able to capitalize. Seventh goal goes to Parker Murch, who goes backhand and rolls up Ferraro and in. Cushing wins again at UConn, this time winning the Large School championship.
