Brookline, MA – We had an 11:30 am Sunday matchup with Lawrenceville traveling north to play a deep Dexter team. Addie Sutherland is in the net for Dexter, and Sarah Martin for Lawrenceville.
Good fast hockey to start, but for the first half of the game, Dexter holds the majority of the chances on goal. A nice pass by Alex Mitsakis through a seam to set up Elena Gordon on a semi breakaway is one of the better chances early on, but a good save by Martin keeps things even. With 7:29 left in the first, Leah Hafer gets taken out in a play that should have been a penalty, but Maggie Lovering and Sawyer Merrill have her back with a good pass from Lovering behind the goal to feed Merrill in front to break the tie, 1-0 Dexter. Lawrenceville was aggressive the whole period. Alexis Fadden laid a hit, showing off her ability to be hard on pucks. Another good play by Merrill, she beats a race to the puck and creates a 2 on 1 up ice, and opts to shoot but misses wide. Strong rush up ice by Devon Moore, off a breakout feed by Chloe Rabazzi, who feeds the slot to Elizabeth Allen, and the rebound is picked up by Moore, 2-0 Dexter.
Around halfway through the second, Gordon gets a great chance in the slot, but another great save by Martin. Shortly after, Teagan Beigel looks like she shot out of a cannon, walks in from the point, takes a backhand shot, and picks up her own rebound for the game’s 3rd goal. Abby Loring finds Maddie Perkins on a 3-on-2, and she hits the crossbar on yet another high-danger chance in the slot for Dexter.
The game enters the 3rd with Dexter still leading 3-0. Sabrina Sokol for Lawrenceville has a productive shift forechecking and pressuring the Dexter defense, but her team fails to sustain pressure in the attacking end. With under 5 minutes, Dexter adds a fourth to their goal total, with Evelyn Doyle looking to sneak a wraparound in, but instead a rebound pops out in front for Moore who buries it home. Our final would be 4-0, Lawrenceville hung in, but Dexter’s scoring ability would prove too much in the end.
