March’s college commitments include 15 Canadian players and 2 American players. Amongst the Canadian players are U18 National team players which include a 4.75 star and a 4.25 star caliber of players. Of the two US players, one comes from the State of Hockey (Minnesota). The other player however is from the non-traditional hockey market of Arizona, where the Kachinas program continues to grow and get stronger. No matter where these players come from or what school they will represent, no doubt they are growing the women’s game. Congratulations to all of these talented players.
Chloe Primerano – F (★★★★3/4) – Commits to University of Minnesota ‘24
Primerano had a serious breakout year. Her 89 points in 29 games for RINK made her the league-leading scorer as a defender. Her accolades racked up this year as well. She was named to Canada’s U18 World Junior Championship team and won a bronze medal, Best Defender, Most Points, and an MVP award in that tournament. Primerano will join the Golden Gophers next season as she looks to bring your strong skill set to a top NCAA organization.
NZ Scouts say: “Primerano’s speed, agility, and hockey IQ make her a difficult defender for the opponents to get by. She has the speed to catch and stay with attacking opponents, her agility allows her to guide puck carriers away from opportunities and into position for turnovers, and her IQ allows her to process the game at a high level, anticipate plays, and outthink opponents.”
Morgan Jackson – F (★★★★1/4) – Commits to Northeastern University ‘24
Jackson is a two-time member of Canada’s World Junior Championship team. Her first time around with Team Canada she won a gold medal. While her second trip to Worlds with Team Canada resulted in a bronze medal, Jackson put up 5 goals and 4 assists in the 6 game tournament. Next season Jackson will venture from the Pacific coast to the Atlantic coast in the historical city of Boston, Massachusetts, where she will pull on a Huskies sweater.
NZ Scouts say: “Jackson uses her speed effectively to be first to the puck and gets in quickly on the forecheck to force errors and win pucks. Her soft hands allow her to control the puck in tight. Her elite touch around the net was a treat to watch. ”
London McDavid – F (★★★★) – Commits to Cornell University ‘25
McDavid stood out when representing the British Columbia provincial team in the Canada Winter Games and then impressed some more during the Canada Nationals tournament, once again representing B.C. The Delta Hockey Academy product put up just over a point per game this season, added 4 points in 6 games in the Nationals tournament, and took home a bronze medal as a result. McDavid has another season yet to continue to grow her game before she heads to the ECAC and laces them up for the Big Red.
NZ Scouts say: “McDavid has success on the draw, winning faceoffs cleanly to start the play with possession. The forward gets in on the forecheck to force errors, battle for net-front presence, and fight for pucks in the corners. She quickly pounces on loose pucks to gain zone entry and work a give-and-go for net drive opportunities.”
Molly Cole – F (★★★1/4) – Commits to University of Minnesota-Duluth ‘25
Cole is a product of the Delta Hockey Academy Prep team, where she had a breakout year. The strong skating 5’7” forward put up 41 points in 27 games this season. She still has another season in British Columbia to improve her skills, which she undoubtedly will. Then in the 2025 season, Cole will head to the WCHA where she will pull on that Bulldogs sweater.
NZ Scouts say: “Cole is a strong skater who uses her speed effectively in all three zones. She gets back quickly on the backcheck and gets into position to defend. Through the neutral zone, she controls and handles the puck at speed to chip and chase or gains the line to drive the net. On the forecheck, she gets in quickly to disrupt the defense, battle below the redline, and frequently be first to the puck.”
Hannah Dods – F (★★★1/4) – Commits to Lindenwood University ‘24
Dods had 35 points in 27 games for the Fraser Valley Rush this season. She will head south of the border to the midwest of the US next season to join the Lady Lions of Lindenwood. The Lady Lions have made several ACHA tournament appearances, but have yet to make the dance since transitioning to the NCAA. Dods will look to help change that.
NZ Scouts say: “Dods is a good skater with quick hands in-tight. Her ability to evade pressure and checks down low is notable, and she’s able to use her edge control to her advantage against opposing defenders. Dods is an unselfish player, as she frequently passes on 2-on-1 rushers, utilizing her teammates well. She has good strength and strong edges. She is strong and physical on the forecheck. She is a strong faceoff person.”
Sarah Kjemhus – D (★★★) – Commits to Nipissing University ‘24
Kjemhus represented Team Alberta in the Canada Nationals tournament and added 2 assists in 6 games. The tall defender is opting to continue her career and education in North Bay, Ontario for the Nipissing Lakers. There she will look to contribute to helping the Lakers get back to another U Sports National Tournament.
NZ Scouts say: “Kjemhus used her size effectively against Quebec to pinch successfully and maintain pressure. She held the blue line on the powerplay to maintain pressure.”
Campbell Rucinski – D (★★★) – Commits to University of Maine ‘25
Rucinski put up 21 points in 27 games this season for Benidle-St. Margarets and added 3 assists in the U16 USA Hockey National Tournament for Minnesota Magazine. She will hone her skills for another season still in Minnesota while helping her teams get to The State Tournament and Nationals, before joining the Black Bears in 2025.
NZ Scouts say: “Rucinski joins the rush well and is a skilled skater. She holds the blueline well in the offensive zone, engages offensively, and makes good decisions with the puck to shoot or pass.”
