Alexis Bernier (D, R, 6’1″, 190, Baie-Comeau Drakkar, 06/21/2006)
2024 NHL Draft Grade: B
Bernier is a 6’1″, 190 pound right shot defenseman who impresses with his smooth skating and solid puck skills. While he may need to work on his explosiveness and strength to reach his full potential, his intelligence on the ice and ability to read the game compensate for any shortcomings. He shows promise as a reliable defenseman with the ability to play well in both ends of the ice.
One of his strengths is his competitiveness and grit, which make him effective in battles for the puck. He also displays good decision-making in distributing the puck and retrieving it when necessary. Although he only scored eight career QMJHL career goals his shot from the point adds an offensive dimension to his game, although there’s room for improvement in this area.
Despite concerns about his size, his puck management and puck-handling skills make up for it. With some added strength and power, he will become even more effective in winning battles along the boards and increase his value to an NHL organization.
Projected to be a late third or early fourth-round selection, Neutral Zone has him rated as a “C+” 2024 Draft prospect we feel he has the potential to develop into a solid defenseman at the professional level.
