Tomas Lavoie

2024 NHL Draft Grade: B

Lavoie is an exceptional skater for a 6’4″, 215 pound right defenseman, displaying agility and improving gap control and stick positioning. However, to reach his full potential at the professional level, he will need to continue developing his explosiveness and lower body power. Offensively, he may not be a prolific scorer, but he exudes confidence and composure with the puck in all three zones, with solid puck skills and good first touch

Lavoie demonstrated solid performance in the Top Prospect Games, showcasing his patience and poise with the puck. While some may perceive his style as lacking urgency, we feel Lavoie’s ability to process the game quickly can at times make it look too easy for him. As a player still growing and developing, his skating will continue to improve with increased strength and dedication to off ice training.

Projected to be a solid two-way defender, Lavoie’s release and growing grit make him a player who NHL organizations will value. His leadership qualities and intangibles further add value, translating well to the professional level. With these attributes in mind, Lavoie is anticipated to be an early third-round draft selection in the upcoming NHL Draft.
