Martins Lavins

Martins LavinsUndecided/UnknownMidgetC6’0″178Riga, LAT20032020-2021: C+

Drafted 2021, 1 #40 overall by Shawinigan Cataractes in the CHL Import Draft

Martins is a 6’0’’ 178 pound Latvian center. He is a right-shot and played this past year for HK Mogo and HK Riga in the Latvian League. He scored a combined 23 points (11 goals) in 34 games. He also played four games at the U18s and scored two points (one goal). The right shot is a skilled forward who is athletic and moves fairly well in straight lines and in small areas. He has a skilled stick and hands and catches and shoots the puck seamlessly. He works best in transition and attacking off-the-line-rush. He drives his lanes and gets to scoring areas around the net. He has a strong lower half and is tough to knock off the puck. He plays physical and gets in quickly on the forecheck to separate defenders from the puck. He is creative and uses the give-and-go and one-touch passing to spring teammates and create offensive chances. Used on the Power Play and showcases his creative passing with the extra time and space. He is smart managing the puck and makes slick touch passes in tight areas. Stops and starts and doesn’t over skate pucks or opposing players. He will need to keep improving his speed in order to be more effective at the next level.
