Nikita Telegin | Belye Medvedi Chelyabinsk | MHL | L | 6’1″ | 185 | Chelyabinsk, RUS | 2005 | 2022-2023: C+ |
Telegin is an above average sized left shot center with a nose for the net who loves to shoot. We like his first touch as he does not need to stickhandle before making the next play. He has a powerful skating base and likes to initiate contact on the way to loose pucks using a low center of gravity to get his hips below his opponents to take away their center of balance. Upon touching the puck Telegin lowers his skating posture to protect the puck and then uses a powerful cross-under to create separation. He has a very easy glide that does not require a tremendous amount of work to get to or maintain top speed. On line rushes he confidently attacks the middle lane and shows a wide head fake that he uses to get defenders leaning in one direction before passing the puck the other. Telegin likes to carry the puck directly in front of him and has a very confident backhand. He had 12 points in 41 MHL games during 2021/22, but has only played in three games since last May with all three being played in December (15, 17 & 29). He has three points in those three December games. We feel his creativity and strength make him a very intriguing late round 2023 NHL Draft prospect.
