Macklin Celebrini | Boston University | NCAA | L | C | 6’0″ | 190 | Boston University | 2023 | Vancouver, BC | 2006 | 2023-2024: A |
Game Grade: A-
Comments: Another great game from Macklin despite the loss. He creates dangerous chances every time he steps over the boards. He is very hard to knock off the puck due to his high pace style of play and exceptional agility that allows him to change direction at a moment’s notice and maintain his high speed. He flies up the ice in transition and slips past opponents with perfectly timed moves. His best tonight came early in the game where he pulled off an agile spin-o-rama around his man, the made a hard cut around another defender to the slot for a dangerous shot in tight. He was one of the only Canadians willing to shoot the puck tonight and did so often. He has a heavy wrist shot and slap shot both with quick release and good accuracy. Macklin was one of the most skilled forwards in this entire tournament and continues to build a strong case to be selected first overall.
Tomas Galvas | HC Olomouc | International | L | D | 5’10” | 141 | Olomouc, CZE | 2006 | 2023-2024: B- |
Game Grade: B
Comments: Galvas has proven to be a great addition to this Czech roster. He is a skilled offensive leaning defenseman with great skating ability. He uses agile changes of direction and hard stops to escape pressure. He is patient with the puck and consistently makes smart pass choices. His head is always up when rushing up ice and spots great opportunities to fire a stretch pass and spring play up ice. He is ok defensively. He uses his skating ability to stay in front of opponents and pressure them towards the boards. There are times where he gets a bit antsy and is too eager to join the rush which allows for opportunities for his opponents to get past him. He needs to settle down and become a bit more responsible in his own end. Joining the rush every time will not be possible once he makes it past juniors. Galvas is a smooth skating offensive defenseman with great playmaking ability, but he will need to work on his play in the defensive end to become an effective player at the pro level.
