Middletown, RI – A massive game in Rhode Island, two teams fighting for a league Championship and Playoff seedings faced off at St. George’s at 3:00 PM. Justin BriseBois started in net for the St.Mark’s Lions and Tyler King for the home team.
The first period Lions came out fast in the first period. Evan Nee tipped home a Jack O’Connor shot to take a 1-0 lead with 9:48 on the clock. One minute and two seconds later, Will Mancuso sauced a perfect pass to Cam MacPherson for a clever score in tight. With 4:07 left, Keith Olympia buried a perfect pass from Will Cooney. St. Mark’s appeared in control up 3-0, and the Dragons went to the room looking for answers.
The second frame was almost all St. George’s, as their tempo and intensity was boosted. On the lone power play of the day, Aiden Ferreira popped a rebound home off a shot from Everett Baldwin to make it 3-1 with 6:50 left. Then Baldwin jumped up in the offense to one-time a wicked shot home from Max Donatelli and Marco Senercia. It was 3-2 with five minutes left. Despite the two goals, Brisbois fought to get St. Mark’s to the locker room up by a goal.
Perhaps the game’s biggest play happened 1:44 into the third as Caden Pelligrino went on a solo forecheck, stole a puck, drove the net, and snapped a shot home to make it 4-2 Lions. St. Mark’s regained momentum, and Brisbois stood tall. Cooney wristed a puck into the side of the net from Max Santos later in the period to all but seal the victory.
