Dexter v Canterbury
In the first afternoon game of the Piatelli Jamboree hosted by the Berkshire School, Dexter took on Canterbury.
After exchanging a few chances for each team, it was late 2007 Joseph Marchi of Dexter who potted the first goal of the game, assisted by 2010 Ryan Porter. Marchi had a strong showing throughout the day, consistently applying pressure to Dexter, while the same could be said about Porter, who played well on both sides of the puck today.
Shortly after, Canterbury was put on the power play, where they were able to capitalize on a tremendous individual effort from Gaines Clonts. Clonts drove into the zone through the middle and finished with a nice backhand short side to even the score.
With about 10 minutes remaining in the first half, 6’5″ Jack Fitzpatrick was able to finish a great tic-tac-toe play off the zone entry to give Dexter a 2-1 lead.
Jake Assad added another assist off a zone entry when he fed Fitzpatrick, who ripped home his second goal of the game from the slot.
Christian Inello added a tally to extend Dexter’s lead to 4-1, the eventual game final.
Drew Karlovits took home the win for Dexter, while Cody Hew and Wilson Szydio split this contest in net for Canterbury.

Kent v Fred Gunn
In a tightly contested game, Kent School and the Frederick Gunn School wrapped up the final game of the day at the Piatelli Jamboree.
The two teams went back and forth for the majority of the first half until 2009 Jack Giamou for Gunn was able to find the twine on a great shot low, far side off a clean zone entry, assisted by Lukas Reisen and Chris Paolone
Not long after, Kent went on a power play and evened the score. As Fred Gunn cleared the puck to the neutral zone, Senior defenseman Cal Gustafson retrieved the loose puck and turned right back up ice with a head of steam. He was able to take the middle of the ice on the zone entry to draw in the pressure and move the puck out to ’08 Will Schlechtweg, who made no mistake for the finish high glove side.
The teams went into the half even at 1-1 despite some sustained pressure from Kent, where Lucas Husted-Edwards rang the crossbar.
Ten minutes into the second half, Gunn was able to take the lead on the power play on a great shot from Dylan Hall that was tipped home by Alisa Craig, ON native William Wright.
With just under eight minutes remaining in the game, Husted-Edwards and Schlechtweg broke in on a 2v1, almost netting the game-tying goal. Despite the late push and last-second chance on an offensive zone faceoff by Colgate commit Maddox Boyle, Gunn held on for the win.
Gunn’s Alex Schnarr took the win in net, while Cooper Ranawat took the loss in net for Kent.

Berkshire v Hotchkiss
Host Berkshire School played to a tie with the Hotchkiss School in a tightly contested game that featured plenty of back-and-forth.
Hotchkiss got on the board first, down a man on the penalty kill, when Aidan Patton rifled home a shot from just inside the blue line to give his team an early 1-0 lead.
Not to be outdone, Berkshire promptly answered the bell on a goal from Dom Somma. Somma found his time and space just outside of the slot, where he was able to beat Hotchkiss goalie Neilan Johnson’s far side.
Striking next for the Bears was late 2008, Zennon Turnovitski, who gathered the puck on his backhand, swiftly moved it to his forehand, and delivered the goal to give Berkshire a 2-1 lead.
The Bears climbed to a 3-1 lead after James Reilly gained a zone entry, pulled the puck around the defender, and put it by Johnson with authority.
Johnson held firm for the rest of the game, allowing Hotchkiss to battle back to a 3-3 tie. Jake Harrison struck to bring Hotchkiss within one, and with not much time left on the clock, Evan Williams was able to beat Berkshire goalie Alex Kim far side post and in to tie the game up.
Both teams had a couple of chances on net in the waning moments of the game, but ultimately finished 3-3.
These two teams meet again on January 28th, sure to be a spirited game.
