#11 Canterbury at Winchendon

Winchendon, MA – This Sunday afternoon matchup has Canterbury traveling north to face a strong Winchendon team. Brady Knode gets the net for Winchendon, and Cody Hew for Canterbury.

Winchendon wastes very little time, jumping to a 1-0 lead just about 30 seconds into the game with a goal by Charlie Puglisi. 2010 forward Drew Short also finds the back of the net early, and we have a 2-0 game less than 3 minutes in. A 2 on 1 springs Coen Bassler and Jackson Smail leading the rush. Smail makes a good decision to keep it and shoot it past the short side. 3-0. Canterbury, after going down early, regains some confidence and sustains good pressure in Winchendon’s end. Pugsili has something to say about that with a strong individual effort to gain the slot and slip the puck past the goaltender to make things 4-0. Shot from the point by Anthony Pomarico extends the lead and makes things 5-0 to end the 1st period.

Back and forth hockey to start the second period, both teams competing and trading decent chances. With under 8 minutes to go in the second, Winchendon makes a great play in front pass from Jacob Turcotte to Jake West for goal number 6. Under 2 minutes left in the second, Smail makes another great play in this game to poke the puck free, and toe-drag around the diving Canterbury goaltender for his second of the game. 7-0 Winchendon after 2.

Early in the third, a 5-minute major against Winchendon is drawn, and Canterbury takes to the power play. Scramble in front, and Britton Bethard for Canterbury locates and pots it home to end the shutout. 7-1. That joy would not stick around for much longer. Good pass from Cooper Ludwar to Short shorthanded, puts the lead back to 7 goals. Bit of a messy middle third period, littered with penalties. At the end of one, Canterbury found their second goal off a goal against a cold Jack Connole, coming in for the injured Knode. Our final would be 8-2 on a Sunday afternoon.
