Looking back at an NHL 2020 pre-draft report on players with ties to Europe
Updated 11/8/2020
Plandowski is a right-hand shooting defenseman who showed good mobility, nice use of his size, and a quality first pass out of the defensive zone throughout the game. He wasn’t flashy, but…
Halifax and Cape Breton squared off for the second night in a row, with this one serving as the Mooseheads home opener. Both teams played with energy, but with young rosters each club made a number of mistakes that cost them on the scoreboard. Final score was 5-4 Eagles in OT.
QMJHL: Moncton at Halifax
October 9, 2020 – This game ended in a 4-2 win for Moncton, but that score was not indicative of how the game played out, and was actually quite flattering for Halifax. The Wildcats outplayed the Mooseheads throughout the game, generated more scoring chances and dominated possession of the puck. Halifax had their moments, but overall it was an uninspiring effort by the home team
Defensively, I really like Kenny’s stick. He hides it well while backchecking and on more than one occasion forced grey are turnovers with a sweeping poke check from behind. He contains…
Neutral Zone has been watching and evaluating Jack’s game since he was a Bantam Major playing for the York Simcoe Express in October of 2016. And although plans may have changes, we will continue watching him during his draft season while he’s playing in the BCHL for the Penticton Vees.
Neutral Zone had Hank Kempf rated as a “C+” 2020 NHL Draft prospect and he was a player who was not drafted. Heading into his second year of draft eligibility we still have Hank rated as “C+” National League prospect. We will continue to track him this year and feel there is a good chance that he will be a defenseman who blossoms in his second full season as a leader on the Muskegon squad.
I was very impressed with how easily he manipulated the Moncton’s defenders. His eyes were able to get them to lean or back off and then he quickly darted to the open ice. He played like a natural goal scorer and was fun to watch.
Joshua an elite puck carrying defenseman who creates offense from his own end. He has a confidence carrying the puck from anywhere on the rink and showed great agility on his skates closing down forwards quickly.
Seguin was the best forward on either team in this game. He finished with two goals, and also set up multiple scoring chances.
Devon is going to stay on my mind because of his ability to score goals. As an 03 he put up 22 goals in 49 games in the NOJHL
His adjustment to the smaller sheet is something to keep an eye on, but he has good size and he is so athletic that we will be watching him closely this year.
This Quebec League matchup had a lot of energy, especially for an afternoon game. Both teams played an up-tempo style in a fast-paced and entertaining contest. Final score was 4-3 for Baie-Comeau. This report focuses on Baie-Comeau’s 2021 NHL Draft Eligible players.

Neutral Zone had seventeen right wingers who are 6’2″ or larger on our 2020 draft list. Four (4) of them were potential 1st rounders, two (2) we projected to be selected by the end of the third round and three (3) that we didn’t think would be drafted. The rest are long term projects who we feel have the potential to mature into legit National League prospects. This is why we will continue to track Doug Grimes during his first season in the USHL.
Ayrton was the most impactful of the draft eligible players in this game. As a puck carrier he played with pace and deception.
Billy was excellent while killing penalties, using his feet and tenacity to disrupt set plays and generate 200 foot clears.
(9) Special Teams Potential – The combination of Noah’s skating ability, long reach and anticipation make him a natural penalty killer. Combine that with how well he maintains shooting lanes and his ability to limit second scoring opportunities and we feel Noah will be a regular penalty killer in professional hockey.
This September Neutral Zone, the largest amateur hockey scouting site in the world, announced the hiring of longtime NHL defenseman Ian Moran to launch an NHL Draft arm of the…
